Opening 15th August 2025
At the foot of the Quantocks, Meadow Somerset is a new venture rooted in generations of family farming at East Lydeard. Opening Summer 2025, we’re bringing fresh energy to a much-loved space, serving up great food and speciality coffee, with exciting plans ahead to include accommodation, a woodland sauna and a new community space.
East Lydeard Farm is proudly owned by Tom and Tara Morris, 5th-generation farmers who’ve led the transition to organic dairy, championed nature-friendly practices alongside community focused businesses. Now, their daughter Amy is stepping into her own chapter with Meadow Café, reimagining the space as a welcoming, community-focused destination.

Meadow Somerset is more than just a café, it's the latest chapter in the story of a family farm that has been part of the Bishops Lydeard community for many years.
Tom and Tara's journey began with the local community in the 1950s and ‘60s as a traditional mixed farm, famous for its blackcurrants sold to Ribena. At the height of harvest season, over 200 local fruit pickers from Bishops Lydeard and surrounding villages would gather to help bring in the crop.
In 1978, we launched our first Pick Your Own fruit offering strawberries, raspberries, tayberries, loganberries, gooseberries, and currants, which became a summer staple for local families. We sold direct from the farm and through the Taunton markets and County Stores.
By the 1980s, our fields weren’t just for fruit, they hosted cricket matches too. The Flying Geese Cricket Team was born, and by the peak of the season we were hosting up to 90 games a year. In 1987, it only felt natural to add a tea room for visitors and match teas for players and supporters. That original tea room now forms the heart of Meadow Café.
Throughout the 1990s, we invited the public to explore the farm on organised walks, sharing our love of the land. In the 2000s, as a farming family we transitioned away from fruit and cricket, turning our attention back to the dairy farm. Transitioning to fully organic farming in 2000 on permanent pasture with an extensive grazing system on diverse herbal lays. We’re deeply committed to sustainability, animal welfare, and biodiversity.
Over the years, we’ve been honoured to receive several prestigious environmental awards, including; British Grassland Society’s Grass Manager of the Year (2004), recognising excellence in grass and forage management for profitable, sustainable livestock farming. The FWAG Otter Award, presented by HRH Princess Anne, for outstanding nature-friendly farming in Somerset and the National Hedgerow Award, presented by Bill Oddie in 1997, celebrating our light-touch approach to wildlife-rich hedgerow management. In 2000, Rob and Tara McNeish stepped in and founded Podshavers, a celebrated restaurant that quickly became a well-loved fixture in the local dining scene, running successfully for 20 years. In 2020, Jenny Tucker took over the reins, earning her restaurant multiple tourism/hospitality awards over the following five years.
Now, in 2025, Amy and Olly Lewis, the sixth generation on East Lydeard Farm, are proud to open Meadow Café. A fresh take on the farm’s tradition of hospitality, Meadow is a relaxed, family-friendly café serving great food, speciality coffee, artisan gelato, and fresh bakes, all rooted in the rhythms of the land around us.
We’re reimagining our beloved farm as a vibrant, community-focused destination where locals and visitors alike can eat, play, and unwind.
Whether you're stopping by for coffee and cake, bringing the kids for a countryside adventure, or just soaking up the view with a scoop of gelato, Meadow Café is a place to feel at home.
And why ‘Meadow’ you may ask? The backdrop of Meadow Café is a much loved and much cared for perianal meadow by farmer Tom. A mix of native wildflowers and grasses, providing year-round habitat and food for pollinators, birds, and other wildlife.
We can't wait to welcome you.
We're working hard to bring some exciting new projects to life at the farm. See what we're up to below!
Coming Winter'25 is our Stream-Side Sauna, tucked beside a stream, this wood-fired sanctuary will offer a soothing space to warm up, cool down, and experience the benefits of contrast therapy, complete with cold plunge pools and peaceful, natural surroundings.
We’re excited to welcome guests to the farm with the launch of our first A-Frame cabin – a beautifully designed retreat nestled in nature. Opening in Q1 2026, this unique stay will offer a peaceful escape at the foot of the Quantocks.
Currently under renovation, this small barn will soon become a flexible, welcoming space for the whole community, perfect for everything from yoga classes and toddler groups to creative workshops and corporate gatherings.
